                                                Early Life

Indira Gandhi was born on November 19th, 1917, in Allahabad India Her dad, Jawaharlal Nehru was the first prime minister of India, and her mother was kamala Nehru. In her early childhood she was tutored by British tutors. Later she studied at Shantiniketan in Kolkata, West Bengal. After her studies at Shantiniketan, she joined Oxford University in England for her higher studies.

                                                Becoming a prime minister

After her studies, she was married to Feroz Gandhi in the year 1942 and had two sons Rajiv Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi. Later she became a member in the Indian National Congress, and she worked for the Independence of India with Mahatma Gandhi. Later she was appointed as a minister in the government under Jawaharlal Nehru. Seeing her leadership qualities many were impressed and when Jawaharlal Nehru passed away, she was nominated to be the prime minister of India, but she declined. So, Lal Bahadur Shastri was elected as the second prime minister of India. After Lal Bahadur Shastri passed away the Indian National Congress elected Indira Gandhi as the third prime minister in 1966. 

                                          Becoming prime minister again

Being a women prime minister, she showed the whole world what a woman can do in the field of politics. In her time, India waged a war with Pakistan and defeated Pakistan in December of 1971. This was one of Gandhi’s biggest achievements.

                                                  Assassination

In April of 1983 she conducted Operation Blue Star at the Golden Temple Amritsar Punjab and saved the temple from Sikh Terrorists. In vengeance of this she was assassinated by her two Sikhs bodyguards on 31st October 1984. She was called the Iron lady of India. 

In her memory many famous places were built like Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi India and a national museum in New Delhi. A number of streets in various cities named after her name.

                                                   Conclusion

In conclusion Indira gandhi was a great prime minister of india who led India to great developments she was a great leader to all and brought dignity to India among other nations being the first woman Prime Minister of India. She held India at great heights. People remember her and pay homage at Shakti Sthal, Shantivan where she was buried.
