us airways the miracle on the Hutson river

January 15 2009 US airways flight 1549 is departing to Seattle Tacoma airport from LaGuardia airport New York.  There are a total of 155 passengers and 5 crew. The pilots are Chesley Sullenberger and Jeffrey Skiles. The plane is a airbus A320-214. The passengers boarded and the plane took off.

The plane was flying over New York, flight attendants were giving out food. There was no problem until two minutes later when the plane was flying near the Hutson river, captain Chesley Sullenberger noticed a flock of gees flying towards them. Both pilots were trying to avoid a Collison with the gees but it was too late.

The gees struck the engines. Both engines were losing power. The pilots immediately contacted the airport. The captain said that they had a collision with gees. The control tower told them to turn back, but they did not have enough engine power to get back.

So the pilots thought and had an idea. They decided to land in the Hudson river. So they went nearer to the Hudson river. The city saw the plane on fire. Then they were descending slowly. The people were bracing and with a jerk the plane splashed into the river. The impact busted out the luggage door on the bottom making some luggage's fall and drown into the river. Then the plane came to a halt. Now the plane was slowly floating down the Hutson river. Next the water starts filling the plane, passengers are getting out of there seats and getting in the raft also known as a slide. Some people are getting on the wing. The control tower sent the coast Guard to assist the passengers and the crew. The crew were ordering the passengers to put on there life vests, then the first coast Guard boats arrived  and took the passengers. There were 100 injuries.

Everyone was rescued. Later this was discussed on how to prevent this incident and so they decided to fly to 35 thousand feet because gees or birds do not fly that high. This ensured that there were no more bird strikes.

  2. Very cool, I believe there is a movie about this with Tom Hanks. A small correction that I would point out is that the river where the plane landed is called Hudson River, which separates Manhattan from New Jersey.

Your articles are great, look forward to reading more of them.
