Thai Airways International flight 311
31 July 1992 Thai airways flight 311 is departing for Kathmandu Nepal from Bangkok Thailand. Their are a total of 99 passengers and 14 crew. The captain is Preeda Sttimai and first officer Phunthat Boonyayei. After filling up the fuel the plane took off. As Thai flight 311 leaves Thailand many passengers are looking forward to Katmandu's mountains because there plane will now cross the Himalayas.
As the plane fly's over the clouds, it is sunny. The passengers can see the mountain tops, then Katmandu orders Thai flight 311 to start its dissent into Katmandu. Then Thai flight 311 started its dissent as the plane was descending, the plane was now entering clouds. Then the plane was given clearance for landing at Tribhuvan airport on runway 02.
The pilots found out that their planes flaps were malfunctioning so the plane was asked to land in Calcutta airport in India. The controller at Katmandu ordered the plane to turn. But the pilots made the plane turn to 25 degrees. After 21 seconds the flaps of the plane went back to normal but the pilots did not change the direction to Katmandu airport, they still wanted to land the plane in India, because the weather was not good at the place were the plane was landing. Katmandu said the weather has now cleared, so the pilots said ok, but they looked at their altitude which was high. Then they said that they were to high to land and to close to land. So the pilots went to do a go around, then the too low warning started to go off. The copilot said go around but the captain said it is false warning. Later when they looked up the pilots said oh my gosh the pulled up the stick but it was too late and
the plane slammed into a mountain.
Pieces of airplane fell from the mountain. The planes wreckage is found after 48 hours. It is soon clear that no one survived the crash. Investigators found out that the cause was the flight crew let the plane move in the wrong direction. The controller also did not know were Thai flight 311 was. Also the plane could not climb the Himalayas because the flaps were not working properly. In conclusion the pilots should not ignore warnings that come up the end.
A well written blog. There have been a number of accidents in Himalayan region. I remember one case where a railway officer along with his wife died in an air crash in Nepal. Pilots have to be very alert and experienced to fly in Himalayan region.
ReplyDeleteGood work. Keep it up and tell us more about such incidents.
Hey Kritarth, loving your aircraft stories. You show great interest and expertise in describing the details. However, a small suggestion, please give some importance to punctuation, run on sentences and grammar. This will enhance your content further.
ReplyDeleteFor eg: In your first sentence ,
31st July 1992, Thai airways flight 311 is departing for Kathmandu, Nepal from Bangkok ,Thailand.
Commas inserted after the date/month/year and commas to seperate consecutive nouns.
In 2nd sentence,
Their are a total of 99 passengers and 14 crew. The correct pronoun is THERE ARE.....
because there plane will now cross the Himalayas.- here it must be THEIR.
So, learn the difference between THERE, THEIR, THEY'RE usages.
And here is a compliment, I am learning a lot about flights from your wrtings!
Hope you don't feel bad for me pointing out your errors as I am a passionate English/French language teacher/trainer and like to help kids to excel who are eager to learn.
Happy Writing.
Kritharth,
ReplyDeleteGood! Keep on writing.
Let your imagination reach you greater goals.
