china airlines flight 120
20 August 2007 china airline flight 120 is departing to Naha airport Japan from Taiwan airport. There are 157 passengers and 8 crew. The plane is a Boeing 737-809. The Captain You Chien-kou and first officer Tseng ta-wei are flying the plane to Japan. All the passengers boarded and the plane took off.
The plane is flying over the South China sea. The passengers were looking out off their windows at the sea. Everything was going smoothly. The plane was now approaching Naha airport. Every one put on their seat belts. The captains put down the landing gears, and the control tower gave permission to land.
Then the plane touched ground and the captain put the reverse rudders and the plane stopped. Then china airlines pilots were bringing the plane to its gate. Finally the pilots stopped there plane at the gate and turned off the engine.
Then when the pilots were about to tell that it was ok to get off, they saw the engine fire warning. When they looked out of there window they saw fire. They immediately called a flight attendance saying that the plane is on fire. The pilots also called the control tower saying that they need fire trucks and the control tower said ok.
The pilots first looked at the evacuation checklist. But it will take time for all passingers to get off the plane. Flight addended open the back doors and notified when all passingers had evacuated.
The pilots break there cockpit window because there is a lot of smoke. When the copilot is going out of the plane, the plane explodes and everyone runs away from the plane. Fire trucks spray the fire with water and the fire is extinguished. Everyone survived.
Investigators found out that the cause was a small bolt from the right wing which went into the kerosene tanks which caused a gas leak and heat. The fire needs 3 things to burn gas heat and oxygen the oxygen came from the air, the heat from the engine and the gas from the plane, altogether makes a fire.
In conclusion the plane had no design flaw and there was no casualties there was just a small bolt which caused a fire when the plane landed.
