Continental Airlines flight 1404
December 20 2008 continental airlines flight 1404 is departing to Houston Texas from Denver. There are a total of 110 passengers. The pilots are David butler and first officer Chad-Levang. They are flying a Boeing 737-524 plane to Huston Texas.
The passengers boarded and the plane went to the runway at 6:18 pm. The plane started going forward. It was going to be a normal takeoff but when the plane is reaching the take-off speed, then the plane starts veering left. Then the plane wildly speeds off the runway and goes on the dirt. The pilot is trying to get the plane on the runway but fails.
The plane is unstoppable. Passengers are falling to the left but still strapped to their seats. Captain David butler says pull up but they can not pull up. Pieces of Luggage are falling out of their compartment. Then the plane makes a jump on a small hill and smashes onto the ground. Then the landing gears come out.
The plane is still going then the engine on the left side comes out. Finally, the plane comes to a halt with a jerk.
Passengers are thrown forward. The fires are starting. 38 injured and two minor injured passengers are in the plane. The pilots are one of the two minor injured. All 110 passengers and 5 crew have evacuated the burning plane.
The investigation is immediately started. The cause was runway excursion due to pilot error in abnormal wind gust which the pilot was not trained for.
In my closing the pilots were not trained to deal with a wind gust but they were still responsible for every person in the plane. Pilots should be trained fully and airlines should be responsible for the people on the plane.
Interesting to hear about this story. When I went for a flying class, I remember how difficult it was to steer the plane when you have high winds. Generally on airports you can see wind socks which let you know which direction, and how fast the wind is blowing, which is an important factor to consider when taking off or landing.
ReplyDeleteThank God a major disaster was averted and all the passengers could be safely evacuated. The incident brings out the importance of proper training of pilots. Well written. Good, keep writing such beautiful and informative blogs.
